This just played out while my daughter and I were having a chess match. People I have mentioned it to since then tell me it’s a thing in chess. I looked it up. Apparently it’s call a Scholar’s mate. And if that wasn’t bad enough, there is a Fool’s mate which is checkmate in only two moves!
I watched this many years ago on “O Canada!” I was able to find it on the NFB website, but they have it listed as educational material, which is not available to the general public. That seems really odd considering how I was introduced to it to begin with.
I’ve played 8 games of Arimaa at this point. It’s very easy to learn, but it’s going to be a long time before I can get bored with it. You might also want to have a look at the Arimaa book on Wikibooks.
